Silverplate lidded dish presented to Matron of Red Cross Hostel

Overview

Two piece silverplate dish comprising a circular concave base with handles on opposite sides and a separate fitted convex lid.
There is an inscription engraved on the lid which reads 'TO MATRON, from Aids and Soldiers of the Red Cross Hostel 14.8.19'.
On the underside of the base are a number of details related to the American maker, Homan Manufacturing Company.

Historical information

This dish was made by the Homan Manufacturing Company of Cincinatti, Ohio. It was presented on 14.8.1919 as a token of appreciation to a Matron of a Red Cross Hostel by the aids who worked with her and the soldiers who were cared for by her.
