'The Aussie Wallet' : Y.M.C.A. Gift 1918
1918Black leather wallet with envelope-style flap opening. The flap is printed in large green letters with 'The Aussie Wallet'. Below this in smaller lettering the text reads 'XMAS WISHES FROM AUSTRALIAN Y.M.C.A. 1918'.
There are two compartments inside the wallet.
A leather cigaette case presented to returning soldiers by the Australian Y.M.C.A is also in the collection.
Throughout the war, the Australian Young Men’s Christian Association (Y.M.C.A.) served the social welfare needs of soldiers by running canteens and offering recreational activities like film screenings and performances. They also made it their mission to distribute Christmas gifts, such as wallets, to those in military service.
