End over End Barrel Butter Churn
This is a wooden barrel butter churn with cast iron fittings that rotated end over end. One end has a removable lid that is held in place by a cast iron latch system. In the lid there is a draining hole which was used to drain the excess butter milk. Halfway down the barrel there is a cast iron shaft that extrudes from both sides of the barrel which would have been used to seat the barrel in some sort of stand (missing). A crank handle (also missing) would have been attached to this shaft and used to rotate the barrel to agitate the cream and cause the butter to form.
