Electric Iron
c. 1950An electric iron with the cord attached. The handle is black bakelite and has a thumb rest at the top left of the handle. Underneath the handle is a black movable switch to change the heat settings.
This iron would be one of the first in which the electrical cord is attached to the iron and it has temperature control.

The switch can be moved to markings which read "OFF SILK WOOL COTTON LINEN".
Behind the switch is etched "GE" in a circle, then underneath is "For A.C. Only", then "Hotpoint PS8", underneath is "AUTOMATCI IRON", underneath is "Catalog No 602386 64", underneath is "VOLTS 250 WATTS 050", underneath is "MADE IN AUSTRALIA".
On the top of the plastic plug which goes into a wall socket , at the top is stamped "RING-GRIP", on the left side of the cord is "10 AMP", on the right side of the cord is "250 V", underneath the cord is "MADE IN AUSTRALIA"
