Wire Strainer

c. 1900
Subcollections
Overview

Two circular pieces of metal which have hooks on a rod which can be turned. At the back of the tool is another piece of metal when pushed down slots into the hooks of the two circular pieces of metal.

Historical information

The wire is pushed through the hole in the rod, and then the rod is turned which pulls the wire tight. When the wire is tight enough, then the top clamp is pushed down and slots into the hooks on the two circular pieces of metal that turn. The wire is then cut and attached to a fence post. This metal wire strainer would have been used to strain the wire on fences. This wire strainer was found on "Endclove" farm about 9kms from Katanning by Vincent Beeck. They are thought to be from the first fence erected on the property.
