NEGATIVE STRIP

Overview

A badly damaged strip of film, with holes at regular intervals down either side, showing two gentlemen, standing side by side, on four negatives. The remainder of the film is clear, but very dirty. It has curled up with age.

Historical information

A strip of film found during the renovations of Armadale Hall carried out in 2018. When the Armadale Hall was built in 1936 it included a bio-box. In 1937 A C Hart installed a couple of projectors and began showing films on a Saturday night. On 20 February 1937 Hart played the 'talkies' Our Little Girl staring Shirley Temple and Muting on the Bounty staring Charles Laughton and Clark Gable. These are two of the earliest known films to be shown at the Armadale District Hall.

A piece of film found under the floorboards of the biobox at the Armadale Hall in 2018 during the buildings renovations.
When the Armadale District Hall was build in 1936 it included a dedicated space for the showing of films because they were a important social past time in the local district. The bio-box at the Armadale District Hall had room for two projectors allowing for the seamless showing of films that were often on multiple reels.
