Overview

A black metallic rectangle. with a grooved strip riveted down either side, to hold a door which slides up and down to cover a square opening, which the film is projected through when opened. Along the base there is also a cushioned lip to hold the door when it is closed. A threaded nut and bolt make up the handle to raise the door.

Historical information

This window was removed from the bio box at the Armadale Hall when renovations were taking place during 2018. It is one of a pair, so when one spool of film was finished, the window could be closed, so the film could continue through the second window while the first spool was changed. Movies were shown in the hall from 1936 through to the c1960s

Statement of significance

When the Armadale District Hall was build in 1936 it included a dedicated space for the showing of films because they were a important social past time in the local district. The bio-box at the Armadale District Hall had room for two projectors allowing for the seamless showing of films that were often on multiple reels.
