Overview

This white leather baseball has red stitching to the seams and is discoloured from use. The name of the baseball team, the championship and year, as well as 18 players' signatures are hand-written on the ball in blue ink.

Historical information

The Alcohol.Think Again Perth Heat Baseball Club was founded in 1989 as one of the Australian Baseball League’s (ABL) foundation teams and have gone on to become one of the country’s most successful sporting clubs.

Their first ABL title came in 1990/91 when the Heat defeated the Daikyo Dolphins in five games thanks to inspired performances from Mike Young, Pat Leinen and championship series MVP Graeme Lloyd.

Contextual Information

This baseball originally belonged to Matthew Goadby who, as a child, souvenired a foul ball and collected players' signatures from the 1990/91 ABL Champions. Matthew later donated the ball to the South Perth Baseball Club and it was lastly passed to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives by Deb and Rob Chappell from the South Perth club.

For the first six Australian Baseball League seasons, Perth Heat contested four of the final championship series.
