"The Daily News" Baseball Club 'B' Grade Finalists 1940
Two black and white photographs of the West Australian Baseball League's 1940 'B' Grade finalists from 'The Daily News" Baseball Club. Both photographs are of the same image and are in the same original black metal frame, which has embossed patterned edges. The larger image is on display in the front of the frame. It is mounted on tan-coloured cardboard. Above the photo, in black print, is the name of the team and the year. Attached to the back of the larger image is the smaller photograph which is hidden from view. It has been inscribed with team members' names, handwritten in black ink beside their images. There are also three women and a man in the photograph who are not identified.

These photographs include players George Dickinson and Alf Hickinbotham, who represented Western Australia in Claxton Shield Championships during the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. Dickinson was an inaugural inductee into the Baseball WA Hall of Fame in 2021.
The photos were donated to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives by George Dickinson's family.
Of historic significance, these well-provenanced photographs record the images of Western Australian baseballers who achieved a level of excellence in their sport. They are rare images from the last West Australian Baseball League competition before it went into recess in 1941, after 95 per cent of league players had enlisted in the services during World War II. Baseball in Western Australia resumed in 1946.
