Melville Braves Baseball Cap c.1980s
A blue, wool and acrylic blend baseball cap with the letter 'B' embroidered in yellow with white outline, on the front of the crown. Embroidered on the back of the crown in yellow thread with white outline is the word 'Braves' and a tomahawk.
Established in 1936, The Braves Baseball Club has a proud history in the Fremantle, Melville and Cockburn areas of Western Australia. The club has a strong history of success with eight championships recorded in the Baseball WA State League, the top level of baseball in Western Australia.
This cap dates from the 1980s and belonged to Parris Mitchell, whose baseball journey began at the Melville Braves, where he helped rocket them to State League champions in 1987/88, 1988/89 & 1991/92. It was early into Mitchell’s career that his talent was recognised and he went on to represent Western Australia in the Claxton Shield in 1984 and continued to represent WA and the Perth Heat for the next sixteen years.
