GENERAL EMBROIDERY, CUSHION COVER
The design on this antique cushion cover on traditional cotton/hemp hand woven fabric is an old traditional Hungarian design from Kalotaszeg, a small region in Transylvania, Romania, famous for its ethnographic traditions.
Wide broad chain stitch in red fills the solid floral design of large bold flowers and leaves.
A scalloped crocheted edge in red a broder cotton. At the opening, two red twisted ties.
The cushion has been well used. The backing fabric wore out and was replaced with a woven Hungarian fabric. The design consists of parallel lines of straight stitch in groups of three.
Edging in parts is well worn and threads breaking.
Cushion back was worn, so donor replaced with traditional Hungarian woven fabric.
