NEEDLE PAINTING, PICTURE

c. 2010 - 2019
Overview

Silk Art is one of the most renowned and highly prized traditional folk arts in China. The yellow lotus flower and green leaf, exhibit a lightness in form and vivid depth of colour. The veins on the flower are long strands of black silk floss couched down with transparent silk thread. On either side of the vein are white silk strands in straight stitch. The square of embroidered silk is glued to a chipboard. Glue is starting to show through front in white area. Label on this delicate fine embroidery identifies it from King Silk House, run by Zhang family. Website says the Zhang family, descend from one of 11, who were appointed embroiderers for the first Chinese Emperor, Qin Shi Huang, 2500 years ago in the city of Suzhou.
