GENERAL EMBROIDERY, SEGMENT

Overview

This is a very fine and exquisite example of Pekinese stitch done clockwise and anticlockwise for filling effect. There are a large number of colour changes, with a very pleasing effect. The floral and leaf patterns are on a black background with blue and orange chrysanthemum and a variety of leaves and bamboo in a large range of green hues.
The segment was part of a larger piece which was made in China for the Western market. These segments were sent to the UK and were made up into garments with a western design. Some of the segments may have been cut up to suit the fashions of the day.
