BROOCH, METAL - FLORAL DESIGN

Overview

Circular metal brooch with broken clasp, has three leaves on one end of a stem and a red glass bead on the other stem.

Historical information

The brooch featuring a clover can be interpreted in two ways. The first intended meaning as a symbol of Ireland. Clover in Ireland grows in abundance and is called the Shamrock whenever it is used to refer to Ireland or its people. One popular story is St. Patrick used the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity to converts.

The second is a Christian view of the clover. With the petals meaning faith, hope, and love. Although this imagery is now tied with a cross, anchor, and heart, respectively.
