1932A small metal silver trophy. Screwed down to a circular black wooden base.
Text on the metal facing reads [Armadale Boys Band / Frank Mc Gurk / for General Improvement / 1932]
The Armadale Boys Band was formed in 1927 and ran until the mid-1930s. Francis ‘Mick’ McGurk, who came from a family where everyone played an instrument, joined the Armadale Boys Band in the early 1930s playing the euphonium. A euphonium is a brass wind instrument, similar in shape to a tuba but is smaller and plays at a higher range of notes than the tuba.
Francis was thirteen when he was awarded this trophy by Mr Val Smith, a prominent bandmaster in Perth, who had been tutoring the band since 1931.
