DISC - 'DRINKING WATER'
1920Rectangular metal disc. The ends on the left and right sides are moulded to form semi-circles. In these semi-circles are holes for screws or rivets.
On front text has been scored onto the disc along with a border around edge. The text reads [DRINKING / WATER].
The supply of water in Western Australia has always been an issue. Post World War One when this disc was issued the supply of water was under severe strain due to dwindling supply and a population boom caused by post war immigration.
The disc would have been used to indicate the water was safe to drink which implies some form of sanitation was implemented.
The disc was found by Ian Boersma along with other objects in rubbish bits near old historic buildings.
