The image shows three women wearing long dresses standing in the entrance of 'Ye Handye Shoppe', at 395 Hay Street, on the corner of Axon Street. Hannah Maria Storey is standing on the left with her daughter Mary Latham Storey, who is holding a small child, next to her. An array of goods is displayed in the windows. There are advertisements for various products painted on the brick posts on either side of the door. A sign with the words 'Shell Kerosene' is attached to the post at the right of the image. The shop is part of a two storey brick building with an iron roof. There is an ornamental concrete parapet above the bull nosed front verandah which is wrapped around the two sides of the shop. The entrance to the shop faces the corner. .
