PHOTOGRAPH: BUXTON'S PHARMACY

1912
Subcollections
Overview

The image shows Mr Buxton, wearing a dark suit and a high collar shirt, standing outside his pharmacy at 183 Rokeby Road. The shop front is tiled and some detail of the window display is apparent. Written on the window: 'Buxton - Chemist - Dispensing Chemist'. The pharmacy is on the street level of a two storey building. The upper level has arched balustrades and the edge of the verandah is enclosed. Mr Buxton stands next to a fancy turned timber post. The small girl holding a hat standing in front of the window, is noted on the back of the photograph as being a 'curious passer-by'. A handwritten note on the back of the photograph records that two meetings of the Subiaco Council were held in a back room of the pharmacy during the building of the Council Chambers. Also on the back are three stickers advertising goods for sale at Buxton's. These are Pectoral Balsum, Cough Linctus and Toothache Essence.
