Baseball from plate umpire Ken Smith's first Claxton Shield Series
This white leather baseball with red stitching to the seams, is a game ball hand-inscribed with the date of the game, the names of the competing teams, the significance of the ball, and three signatures.
A Claxton Shield Series game between Western Australia and the Northern Territory was played at Parry Field Ballpark in Perth on 26 November 1987. This game ball is autographed by the three base umpires, Frank Robertson, Lester Richardson and Doug Oliphant and commemorates Western Australian Ken Smith's first time umpiring a Claxton Shield plate.

Ken Smith, whose career as a baseball umpire spanned more than 35 years, donated this commemorative ball to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives.
