1930'The Lord Mayor's Relief Appeal - 1930' celluloid fundraising pin. It features a cream, mostly rectangular shaped card with two sides at the bottom forming a point to resemble a flag or pennant.
It is overlaid with a diagonal blue banner displaying the word 'RELIEF' in cream capital letters, above which are the words 'THE LORD MAYOR'S' and below which are the words '1930 APPEAL'. There is a decorative blue scroll at the top and the bottom.
There is a metal pin threaded through from the front near the top scroll and bent downwards at the back for attaching to clothing,
The reverse of the card is plain.
This celluloid pin was issued as part of a philanthropic fundraising drive initiated by the Lord Mayor to assist citizens facing extreme financial hardship during the Great Depression.
During the 1930 economic downturn in Australia, Lord Mayor's relief funds played a critical role in providing food, clothing, sustenance, and community support to families affected by widespread unemployment
The Lord Mayors of each city oversaw a large number of patriotic funds and charity appeals.
