WWII era trench art coin bracelet dated 1943
c. 1943World War Two era trench art Australian coin bracelet. It features a central florin flanked by two shillings, two sixpences and two threepences, all dated 1943.
Between each coin is a shield cut from the centre of a sixpence. A thin linear remnant of the coin has been retained either side of the shield which threads through holes in each coin to connect them. The catches at either end are also made from pieces of a sixpence. One forms a triangular loop while the other is a curved T-shaped piece which threads through the loop to secure the bracelet.
Each coin has been shaped to create a convex upper surface and a concave lower surface. The bracelet is extremely well made and decorative.
This sweetheart bracelet is one of a large number of items in the collection made from coins. These include jewellery such as brooches and bracelets, small photo frames, and other bric a brac.
Many of these items were made by servicemen and could be called trench art. This is sometimes confirmed by engraving on the reverse side of the coins.
