Letter from The Island Farm

Elizabeth Brockman (b.1811, nee Walcott) was married to Robert James Brockman. At the time of writing, she was living at "The Island" farm on the Back Flats at Greenough.
Valentine Trew was an expiree working as a clerk for John S. Maley at Greenough.
The Mechanic's Institute was established by John Maley adjacent to his mill at North Greenough in 1866. It provided a lending library.

Mrs Brockman returns the books to the Mechanics Institute. She was unable to return send them before & will pay the fine for detaining them the first time she goes out She would like to have one of the ??? “Mabel Vaugher” again if Mr Trew will be good enough to send it.
Ms Brockman will also feels obliged to Mr Trew if he will select for her a pair of serviceable boots for her and kind of the one ? also a pair of dark strong winter trousers for her son, 3 pieces of black braid for the bottom of a dress – a few black hooks & eyes - & 6 pieces of strong black sewing silk – a ball lamb cotton.
