Letter from Mrs Brockman
1865handwritten note on watermarked paper that had been folded to 1/6th of size. Seven small holes in the document.
Elizabeth Brockman (nee Walcott) (1811-1904) was living on a farm at Walkaway when this letter was written.
The Mrs Maley Sen referred to was Martha Mary Maley (nee Goodchild) who was living with her son John S. Maley at Greenough.

Greenough March 4th
Mrs Brockman would feel very much obliged to Mrs Maley, if she could choose for her one or two articles of which she has in immediate need should such things be in her store, Mrs Brockman is unable to go so far herself & does but thank her for [?] understand to [?] what she requires.
Material for a dress each for Mrs & Miss Brockman & a frock for a girl of 11 years of age. It is required for Mourning & for every day wear to take the best dresses.
Black bargee or very similar material would be preferred to print Mrs Brockman would not like to exceed 1/6 per yard.
6 pieces black braid for the bottom of dresses.
3 or 4 dozen black hooks & eyes
If Mrs Maley will kindly select these articles as she would for herself she hd greatly oblige Mrs Brockman
Mrs Brockman begs to be very kindly remembered to Mrs Maley Senior, & trusts she is getting much better.
This is a good example of a letter written between two women providing details on clothing.
