We don't know much about Brasher. According to this diary he served as 3rd Mate aboard the "Tartar" which departed Gravesend, England 1867. The Tartar arrived at Fremantle on 14 January 1868.
By 1872 Brasher was secretary of the Greenough Flats Pigeon Club. Names of members and subscriptions were recorded in this notebook
On 1 June 1881 he entered Mr Morrissey's service as tutor to his children at Yarragadee (close to Mingenew). Brasher then reused this notebook as a private diary recording events at Yarragadee from 1 January 1882 to 5 April 1883.

This notebook is an important reference to an early sporting activity at Greenough. It also provides a very detailed account of life at Yarragadee.
Whilst Brasher was working at Yarragadee he recorded over a month numerous sightings of a comet. Research has found that this was the Great Comet of 1882, and that Brasher's sighting could be in advance of any official recording.
