1949 Butter Ration Card for child under 7.

Printed on front of paper is [Commonwealth of Australia / 1949 BUTTER / RATION CARD W No 51308 / CHILD under 7 years / at 1st January, 1949 / Name Blomfield Geoff / Address Adminal Rd / Bedfordale / Holder's name and address must be inserted / immediately upon receipt of card / If this Card is found it must be returned at once to the / Deputy director of Rationing, Perth].

The bottom of the card has one cut out section, with four remaining squares. The first three squares are ration coupons, with the right-most square cross-hatched. The three remaining coupons have [1949 / BUTTER] printed diagonally across each square, with the numbers 58, 59 & 60 in progressive squares.

Printed vertically along the right edge of the card are the words [FOLD HERE].

Historical information

This butter ration card was issued to Geoff Blomfield in 1949 as he was under the age of 7 as of 1st January 1949. Geoff was living with his family on Admiral Road in Bedfordale.

Rationing was introduced during World War II due to shortages caused by supplying the war effort and sending supplies to Europe. Though some items were restricted it was not until 1942, after Japan entered the war that the Federal Government introduced a national rationing system. Following the end of the war rationing was slowly reduced with tea being the last item removed from the rationing list in July 1950.
