Overview

Butter & Tea Ration Coupon Folder from 1949.

Folder is made from orange coloured card with black printing on the front back and inside of the folder. Plack pen has been used for handwriting on the front cover. The cover has a torn piece missing from the top.

Printed on the front cover is advertising for a tea company:

[With compliments of / G. Woodson & Co. Ltd. / PROVIDERS OF / "THE NICEST TEA OF ALL" / * FRAGRANT AND REFRESHING / * SEALED-IN-FLAVOUR / IT'S ECONOMICAL TOO]. Immediately below this printing is an image of a Woodson's Tea packet.

At the bottom of the front cover is printed [COUPON FOLDER / Name Bloomfield / Address Bedfordale]

The inside of the folder has [BUTTER COUPONS] printed at the top on a section that has been folded down and stapled at either side. The bottom section is also a section which has been folded up and stapled at either side. This section has [TEA COUPONS] printed in the centre. The middle section of the folder has [PERIOD OF AVAILABILITY OF FOOD COUPONS] printed at the top, then a table showing the relevant coupon numbers, date of availability and current until date for both butter and tea coupons.

The back cover of the booklet has an advertisement for [ANCHOR PURE FOOD PRODUCTS], as prepared by [G. Wood Son & Co. Ltd.].

Historical information

Rationing was introduced during World War II due to shortages caused by supplying the war effort and sending supplies to Europe. Though some items were restricted it was not until 1942, after Japan entered the war that the Federal Government introduced a national rationing system. Following the end of the war rationing was slowly reduced with tea being the last item removed from the rationing list in July 1950.
