A black and white portrait (proof) photo of Robert Charles Fortescue (Bob) Temperley who was a Toodyay Road Board Member in 1949-1961 and the Shire Councillor in 1961-1968.
He is seen in white shirt, tie & jacket, on the left lapel of which is a 'Returned Service League' badge. Mr Temperley has a marked receding hairline and is smiling.

Historical information

Born in West Perth in 1910, Robert Temperly died in Cottesloe, Perth, WA in 1998. He is buried in Karrakatta Cemetery, Perth, WA.
In the 1930s and 1940s, Robert Temperley was the overseer on Cooralya Station, out of Carnarvon. He enlisted at Northam, in 1940 and served overseas, winning the Military Medal in 1941 when he was an Artillery Sergeant in Crete.
After discharge as a Captain in late 1945, by January 1946, he had purchased Maisemore (originally part of the Twine family property), on the Irishtown Road, from the Robert Y. Lee Steere (who had died during WW2).
In 1948-1950 and 1952, he served as President of the Toodyay RSL. In 1966, he was presented with the local government award for continuous service from April 1949.
Resigning from the Shire Council in Nov. 1968, Robert and family had already purchased a holiday home in Cottesloe, Perth.
