TOODYAY ROAD BOARD AND SHIRE COUNCILLOR JOSEPH CHARLES (MAC) WROTH

Mac Wroth was a Shire Councillor in 1961-1996 and Shire President in 1969-1971 and previously a Road Board Member in 1958-1961.
Mac was born in the Toodyay Hospital in 1921 and died in Toodyay, WA in 2011. He is buried in the Toodyay Public Cemetery, WA. He was the son of Joseph Ablett Wroth (1859-1943).
Mac’s first job was as assistant in the local post office and co-op. He joined the Toodyay Light Horse Troop and later served in the RAAF during WW2.
Active in school P and Cs in Toodyay and Northam, he also served as vice chairman of the WA Government Schools Association. ‘Mac’ was the district’s first Anglican Church Lay Leader and its first Pastoral Assistant. A Worshipful Master of Toodyay Masonic Lodge, he was President of the Toodyay RSL Sub-Branch, inaugural Chairman of the Board of the Toodyay Tourist Centre (1973) and Chairman of the Butterly Cottages Association.
As well as being declared Toodyay’s 1988 Citizen of the Year, the Federal Government awarded him an OAM in 1995 for his services to the community.
