Historical information

Mr. North was a Shire Councillor from 1961 - 1970 and also a member of the Road Board from 1960 - 1961.
He was born in Fremantle, WA in 1916 and died in a farm accident in 1978, during Cyclone Alby, at ‘Springbank’, Toodyay, WA. He is buried in Toodyay Public Cemetery, WA.
With his wife Margaret, Albie North developed the ‘Strathavon’ pony stud and farm, Toodyay. He was a World War 2 veteran, spending 3 years overseas in Moratai where he was promoted to lieutenant. He was a member of Toodyay RSL.
He was one of four founding members of the Toodyay Naturalists’ Club in 1968 and was its first Honorary Life Member. He also served as Lieutenant of the Julimar Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade, 1976-1978. Albie was a highly qualified wool classer and for many years taught wool classing to agricultural students at the Keaney College, Bindoon.
