Overview

Series of letters relating to Toodyay Repertory Club 1955-56.
The letters include mass-printed mail outs, typewritten and hand written letters and receipts.
Topics include acquisition and repair of Duke Street building, working with UWA Adult Education Board to develop new plays, upgrading stage at Toodyay Memorial Hall. Club donated some proceeds to Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Historical information

The Toodyay Repertory Club was similar to a number of regional theatre clubs, providing short plays to local residents from a repertoire set for the season. This system allowed small clubs to show a range of plays over the course of a season. The letters relate to the major events of the club during the 18 month period.
It is unknown how these letters came to be located in the Museum Workshops however it is assumed it was donated.

Statement of significance

The value of the items considered for accession lies their research value as dated documents relating to a Toodyay community organisation during the 1950s. The letters include useful examples of state government documents, Toodyay Road board documents and UWA programs.
