1938Purple and yellow triangular pennant flag, displaying "Back to Goldfields WA", "1938", "Souvenir" and featuring a rising sun behind a mining shaft.
Relates to annual carnival in Kalgoorlie, established in 1927.
The flag has been stored rolled up for many years and is now resistant to being unrolled. The side that has been exposed has faded significantly.
Belonged to Peter Salvaire who had been a resident in Kalgoorlie up until 1922.

The flag relates to the ‘Back to the Goldfields’ Carnival held in Kalgoorlie, a noted Western Australian social event established in 1927 that celebrated the goldminers who had made Western Australia prosperous. The carnival ran
for several days (and for almost a month by 1938 across Kalgoorlie, Boulder & Coolgardie) and included speeches, races, sports and a beauty pageant. The newspapers of 1938 note that the carnival also included school choirs and a ball.
