Small hand painted china Wembley Ware figure of Australian Rules player holding football, running, left foot forward. Wearing colours of South Fremantle Football Team - red and white guernsey and striped long socks, white shorts, black boots, laced. Player has black hair. Glazed. J. Todd 10 - written in pale grey on back of guernsey. Base of ornament glazed green, tuft of green grass behind back foot.

Base: White clay base with small firing hole.

Wembley Ware

Contextual Information

Wembley Ware was a line of fine china produced by the Bristile company at the their factory in the Subiaco industrial area from 1946 to 1961. Its many different decorative pieces, also known as Fancy Ware or Lustre Ware were notable for their originality and their lustrous, sometimes opalescent glazes. This piece is part of a collection donated by Mr. Ossie (G O) Edwards.
