DRESS: EVENING, BLACK WITH FLORAL APPLIQUE
c. 1950This black evening dress, in synthetic georgette fabric, has plaited shoulder straps, some fullness in the bodice, a very full skirt, covered buttons with loops at the back, and ties from the side towards the buttons at waist level. There are five rows of colourful appliqued flowers with leaves from hip to floor level sewn with a metallic-like thread.
Ms Lilian Bunning, owner of this dress, lived at 93 Salisbury Street, Subiaco.
The dress was worn by Lilian Bunning, a concert pianist, at performances in Australia, UK and other overseas places. Ms Bunning is the aunt of the donor. She moved in artistic circles and her husband was an artist.
