CROCHET, FILET, TEA COSY

c. 1930 - 1939
Overview

In the depression of the 1930s, fabrics, threads and handcraft materials in short supply. Folk could not afford luxury goods or fine accessories for the home. This crocheted tea cosy was part of a set, given as a wedding present in 1932, to form part of a young lady’s trousseau.
Finely crocheted 4 sided tea cosy, each side in the shape of a shield, is worked in fine white cotton thread.
Each side has a design of 3 daffodils and 4 leaves growing from the ground, worked in filet crochet.
The background is a honeycomb lattice design.
On the connecting edges of each side is a lozenge shaped crochet edging.
