LACE, BOBBIN, TABLE CLOTH
1900This exquisite hand bobbin lace tablecloth was a wedding present to the donor’s grandmother in 1900 in Holland as was a set of silver cutlery labelled 1900. It took pride of place on dining room table for special events. Each Thursday, the donor and her cousins visited grandma, and were given lessons in etiquette at the table – how to eat soup with a silver spoon at the correct angle – away from the centre of the plate.
Made in sections and joined together. The centre of this circular tablecloth has a floral design with leaves, surrounded by four vases of flowers with different lace fillings. Around this are different motifs. A lovely lace edging has been made to fit the circumference.
