CANVAS WORK, CUSHION COVER
1984This hand embroidered canvas work cushion cover illustrates how an attractive design has been created using only a few stitches - Smyrna Cross stitch, leaf stitch, sloping Gobelin, tent stitch, straight stitch – and only 3 colours – olive green, pink and cream - in varied combinations. 10 bands of stitching around a central square motif. Back of the cushion is an olive green velvet.
The design, a graphed pattern with instructions, by Stitchery Australia, Lorraine McGinnis, 11 Garland Way, Trigg, WA 6020. Design 35. Green Leaf Cushion was purchased in Perth in 2008.
Hand embroidered household accessories were a feature of homes in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
