A.J. Smith Shield - WABL 'B' Grade Minor Premiers
This is a wooden shield mounted on a wooden base with a silver metal scroll at the top. The scroll is engraved with the name of the baseball league. In the centre of the wooden shield is a silver metal shield engraved with the name of the trophy. Thirty smaller metal shields are mounted around the central shield and are engraved with the names of the winning clubs, from 1977 to 1999.
Two manufacturer's labels are attached to the trophy; a rectangular label under the base and an oval label on the back of the wooden shield.
The A.J. Smith Shield was awarded to the West Australian Baseball League's 'B' Grade Minor Premiers from 1977 until 1999.
With the amalgamation of the West Australian Baseball League Inc. (WABL) and the Baseball Development Foundation Inc. (BDF) on 5 May 1999, Baseball WA Ltd (BWA) was formed. Because of the changes to the League, this shield was replaced with another trophy bearing Baseball WA's name.

The perpetual shield identifies the WABL clubs that won the 'B' Grade Minor Premiers trophy up until the League's change of name.
This item had been in the possession of Baseball WA and was passed to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives.
This trophy commemorates a history and naming of teams that achieved a level of excellence in baseball in Western Australia. Of social significance, it also preserves and exhibits Western Australian baseball history and heritage. It is in good condition and is well-provenanced.
