B21 Carriage Shed
This shed houses one of the most extensive collections of horse drawn vehicles in Western Australia.
Around 1992 the Busselton Historical Society (BHS) was seeking more space on the Old Butter Factory site to build a new shed to house the extensive collection of carriages that the BHS had collected. The desired land was adjacent to the east boundary and part of unvested Crown Land, Reserve 35490 which included some reclaimed land. In 1998 675m² of this land was excised and reallocated to the Old Butter Factory leasehold.
In 2003 this society used the land obtained for the Carriage Shed or Roger Edwards Building, which was built by Brian Pross from drawings done by Frank Mouritz. Major funding was provided by Lyndon & Roger Edwards.
The Roger Edwards Building was opened to the public by Roger Edwards at 2pm Saturday Feb 2004 after a speech by then President Frank Mouritz.
In 2006 the BHS received a grant from the City of Busselton which was used to fund a two-bay extension to the Carriage Shed which was built by members.
Between 2007 and 2008 BHS members added a bull nose shelter over the walkway on the west side using a $5,000 grant from SWDA.
In 2020 the BHS received a Community Energy Efficiency and Solar Grant from the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resource which was used to mount a 10.8kw Photo Voltaic system on the Carriage Shed. On a sunny day this system now powers the complete site.
