GENERAL EMBROIDERY, MATCH BAG
c. 1930This unusual container, made to hold a box of matches and envelopes, was part of young lady’s hand embroidered trousseau in early 20th century ' A PLACE FOR EVERYTHING and EVERYTHING IN ITS PLACE.
There are two pockets, a smaller one at the top with embroidery in stem stitch ‘MATCHES’ and below a larger one embroidered in satin stitch 'ENVELOPES'. Between the two pockets, an embroidered face of a moustached gentleman, facial features in stem stitch.
