METALWORK, COLLAR
For hundreds of years, the Indian subcontinent has been a resource for quality hand embroidery made to for the western market. This lovely collar, stitched on velvet shows the beautiful simplicity of silver thread embroidery made for the fashion market, most probably in the UK. Stitching like this was often also done in gold. Sitting close to the neck of the wearer, the collar features 7 roses and is surrounded by a series of scrolling leaves and stems. The edge has a very fine ‘purl’ couched. The collar was probably made in the 1950’s or 1960’s.
