Art Nouveau Beaded Silk Blouse by Aurelio Costarella, Western Australia
This elegant blue-grey charmeuse silk blouse, designed and hand-embellished by renowned West Australian couturier Aurelio Costarella, showcases a distinctive Art Nouveau–inspired beading design. Cut from a single piece of lustrous silk with softly shaped cap sleeves, the blouse reflects Costarella’s mastery of both construction and surface embellishment.
The neckline is encircled by a 30mm beaded collar band, detailed with lazy daisy stitches in a bronze-coloured thread that adds warmth and dimension. Across the front and back of the bodice, stylised roses—reminiscent of the designs of Charles Rennie Mackintosh—are beaded in scattered placements. These are unified by sweeping curved and linear bands of beading in a classic Art Nouveau rhythm, giving the blouse a graceful visual flow.
The garment is finished with French seams and hemmed using bias tape for a clean interior. Labelled "Aurelio Costarella," the blouse is a testament to the designer’s ongoing dialogue with art history, emotional depth, and refined technique.
Costarella often referenced architecture, fine art, and the natural world in his work. In this piece, the influence of turn-of-the-century design harmonises with his signature contemporary couture vision—poetic, precise, and deeply personal.
