NEEDLE LACE, RETICELLA, EDGING
1906This insertion edging, reticella cutwork embroidery, lace-like in appearance, was embroidered by a West Australian and entered in the “Australian Exhibition of Women’s Work” in Melbourne in 1907.
Sections (squares) of the linen base fabric were cut out, then strands of thread were laid across the open areas creating a mesh/network which was then embroidered using buttonhole stitch.
A series of repeating motifs across the centre worked in buttonhole stitch with top and bottom edges in 3 rows of pulled fabric four-sided stitch.
A paper registration entry label, attached to the back, was removed and kept with accession form.
