Contextual Information

The Cream Can Steriliser was used to sterilise the empty cream cans at the Butter Factory before they were returned to the farmer.

The cans were delivered to the steriliser by a roller conveyer, part of which is displayed. They were then circulated in the steriliser, which operated using the steam produced by the factory boiler.

Once sterilized the cans were then loaded onto the truck for return to the farmers along with the slip of paper that details the weight and test results of the cream that had been delivered. The farmers were identified by a brass label on the can, . Many original cream can labels from the Busselton area are on display in the Dairy Room in the Museum.
