Details
Details
Engraved into the wood: XLV11 ^ 96
The Jetty Pile is marked with Roman numerals and an arrow, indicating the distance in feet from the arrow to the toe of the pile. This measurement is crucial for the Piling Attendant, as it shows how deep the pile has been driven into the sea floor; in this case, it reached a depth of 47 feet (XLVII).
Additionally, the number 96 denotes the year it was installed, which is 1896. These markings help monitor the pile's integrity and provide historical context.
