Holding Vat
c. 1920This is a large rectangular metallic vat that with a pipe that was used to pump cream into the Butter Churn. There is also a set of galvanized steps that would have been used by workers and a plug in the end that could have been used to drain the vat for cleaning.
It is not known whether this Holding Vat was actually used in this Butter Factory but we do know it was used in a Butter Factory here in the south west

The Holding Vat was used to ripen and stockpile cream until it was ready for transfer to the Butter Churn which was the heart of the butter making process.
