Overview

A sepia photograph of intersection of two roads and the buildings along the right hand side of the street. There is a man walking along the side of the street, a couple of men further along the street and a horse and cart further in the background. The streets are dirt.

Historical information

A sepia postcard of Austral Terrace, Katanning and the intersection with Clive street. The picture is taken south along Austral Terrace just before and after the intersection. In the foreground is the original NAB building. After the intersection can be seen the Katanning Flour Mill, F & C PIESSE building, the the Katanning Hotel and then the King George Hostel.

Inscriptions and markings

On the back of the postcard printed in dark lettering is "POST CARD", and in the top right hand corner is a square to affix a stamp. Underneath this heading are two columns, on the right hand side are lines. Along the left hand side is printed "Printed in Germany"

On the back of the postcard handwritten in black ink is "21.6.13 Dear Hugh, The Girls are due to arrive by the Belgie on the second of July. I am in Kat getting my teeth fixed. got 16 out yesterday It rained all day today, am weather bound feeling fairly well sincerely Your affect cousin Ben."

On the back of the postcard printed in black lettering is "POST CARD" and in the top right hand corner is a red stamp which has a white map of Australia with a red kangaroo in the centre. At the top of the stamp in white lettering is "AUSTRALIA POSTAGE" and below the map is "1d ONE PENNY". It is a one penny stamp and has a black postal mark of "Western Aus". Along the left vertical side partially overwritten by the handwriting is "Printed in Saxony".
