First World War Black and White Photograph of Light Horse Troopers ‘Out on a Stunt’

1915 - 1919
Overview

A small black and white photograph showing a group of dismounted Light Horse troopers with their horses. The ground is stony and could possibly have been the bed of a stream. Many of the troopers have their sleeves rolled up or are even sleeveless. It is obvious from the image that it is very hot. The top right of the image has some small blemishes likely from its development.
The reverse of the image has the proforma printing of part of a postcard and an inscription describing the image. The photograph has a small border and overall is in good condition.

Historical information

A “stunt” was a word that was given to raids that the light horse units undertook. As Lieutenant W. Pascoe from the 9th Light Horse Regiment stated in his letter to the South Australian Quorn Mercury published Fri Mar 23, 1917 “The horses are at present very fit, and just about ready for another raid or "stunt" as we call them.”
