First World War Black and White Photograph of a ‘Gharry Stand’ in Cairo

1915 - 1919
Overview

A small black and white photograph showing a group of gharries with their drivers waiting to be hired. All the carriages are lined up outside of an ornate metal fence surrounding formal gardens. Part of the fence contains a brick structure with lamps atop. There is a large flat area of ground at the front of the image and a number of people are either walking by or waiting by carriages. A tower can be seen at the back of the image in the gardens. The reverse of the image has the proforma printing of part of a postcard and an inscription. The photograph has a small border and is in good condition with just a small red mark on the reverse
