First World War Black and White Photograph of Temple Ruins in Cairo

1915 - 1919
Overview

A small black and white photograph showing stone ruins of a building. The image is taken from above and passageways and square openings can be seen. Large oblong stones sit above these openings. The reverse of the image has the proforma printing of part of a postcard and an inscription. The photograph has a small border and is in good condition although there are several white spots and a long white line showing.

Historical information

The image appears to depict the Valley Temple of King Khafre in Giza that was built around 2570 BCE near the Great Sphinx. During the First World War ANZAC soldiers stationed in Egypt often visited these landmarks and took pictures as souvenirs.
