TOOL, LACE MAKING PILLOW
Bobbin lace pillow and board of the late 19th C. used by the Carmellite nuns of Nedlands, WA until early/mid 20th C.
Constructed of pine with board and pillow upolstered in navy coloured velvet which is faded and worn. The pillow is supported on a spool attached to the board by two aluminium brackets, possibly not original, with a ratchet on left side. Metal wires support a turned timber rod to hold the completed lace. A fading stamp on the underside of the board reads 'Made in Australia - Torchon Lace Co. 229 Collins St Melbourne'.
This lace making pillow was given to Rusty Walkley in 1970s
